FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
What
is coaching?
Coaching
is a way of bringing the best of out someone by helping them find the answers
within themselves. It’s particularly
powerful, because the results are as individualized as you.
What can you do for me?
- Help you clarify, set
and reach your goals easier and faster.
- Inspire and stretch
you to achieve things well beyond what you can do alone.
- Give you structure and
tools to improve the quality of your relationships, work and life.
How often
will I meet with you?
We tailor the program to your needs
and your schedule. Most of our clients
do coaching sessions once a week or twice a month. Some like to meet via telephone; others
face-to-face. The initial sessions of an
engagement generally require more time together than the later months.
Can you guarantee
my results?
No. We can guarantee that
you will significantly increase the chance of achieving your goals, but we
can’t guarantee your results, because only you can make the changes that
you want.
How will we
measure success?
Ultimately, we measure success
based on your satisfaction and the achievement of your goals. This is frequently measured by the feedback
you will receive from others about changes you have made during your program. During the program, we do “real-time”
assessments, where we get feedback as to how the program is progressing. This allows us – and you – to make mid-course
adjustments to ensure your success.
How is coaching different from consulting or therapy?
Consulting. There are generally three key
differences between coaching and consulting:
- Focus: Consulting is primarily focused on the answers;
coaching is primarily focused on the process.
- Source of Answers: You pay a consultant for an answer; you pay
a coach to evoke the answer from you.
- Skills Transfer: Consultants don’t typically help you develop
skills; coaches do.
Therapy. Here are the general differences
between coaching and therapy:
- Therapists focus
primarily on the past; coaches focus primarily on now and the future
- Therapist assume you
have a “problem”; coaches assume that you are creative, resourceful and
whole.
- Therapy can take many
years; sustainable coaching results can occur in a matter of months.
What is the basic philosophy of
coaching?
There are two philosophies common
to all "pure" coaching methodologies:
- You know yourself
best; therefore, the best answers for you come from within you.
- You see the world in a
certain way, and a coach can help you see things from a different perspective,
thereby creating new possibilities.
How do I know when to hire you?
You know that it’s time to call us when:
- Support:
You or your team are experiencing issues, that you cannot change it alone,
and you want support.
- Change:
You or your team are going through some change – such as a promotion or
a new challenge – and you want to manage the transition well.
- Improvement:
You or your team are successful, but you want to take your game to the next level, whether it
be with work or personal development.
What are some typical
issues that you work with?
Clients seek our
help for a wide variety of issues, but here are some common themes:
- To become more effective at work - either as an individual, or with your team..
-
To get unstuck from an old way of doing things
that no longer serves you or your team.
- To manage an exciting or difficult transition.
- To identify a more fulfilling direction in life.
Why does coaching work?
Coaching works for several reasons:
- No
matter how smart, successful or educated you are, you have blind spots,
and we are trained to “see” your blind spots.
- We have no agenda but yours.
How often in life do you find someone who is there 100% to support you
without judgment?
- Even the most disciplined of us need some structure. We provide a safe, supportive environment with just the right amount of structure and accountability to help
you succeed.
I’m already successful.
Why do I need a coach?
Even the best can get better by working with
a coach. Tiger Woods, for
example, has six coaches, and he’s the best golfer in the world. If you want to live a life of continuous
improvement, a qualified coach can support you.
Can I hire you for a
specific project?
Yes. It’s common
for clients to work with us for a specific project and then move on to other
projects once they’ve achieved their initial goals.
How fast can I get results?
It depends on what you want to achieve. If you want to change behaviors or develop
new skills, in our experience 3 to 6 months is typically the shortest time
frame for sustainable results.
